Graduating to New Adult and pushing buttons

Writing YA and even Middle Grade is a constant challenge for me. So when I saw New Adult gaining steam, I jumped at the chance to create novellas that feature an older protagonist, but combined romance, race and topical issues.

Here’s a sneak peek at two that should be ready by February:

    Inseparable

It was just supposed to be a fun night out. But when Nadia’s initially refused entry into the city’s hottest club, the experience becomes her worst nightmare. And when the handsome guy who intercedes is none other than the club owner’s kid brother, little does she know that her ranting tweets detailing how she was unfairly treated will divide a city, and also help her find out whether love really does conquer all. ©

    UNBROKEN

He’s the hope of a small town football team determined to reach the state finals. And she’s the girl he’s been warned about.

For Alex Campos, becoming the starting quarterback of the Newcastle Coyotes means a second chance. So he’s not about to blow it by falling for the coach’s daughter. But Danni Ahmed’s not a girl who takes no for an answer, especially when their connection is so strong. And not after enduring the town’s obsession with football, until it nearly destroyed her. That’s why she’s determined not to let the same thing happen to the boy she loves. ©

Excerpts will be up the first week of February!

A secret tryst results in an acclaimed portrait that ties a model forever with the artist.

Akeel’s a gifted artist who gets raves for his web site designs and graphic comics, only he can’t seem to win over Layla. He’s drawn to her in more ways than one, especially after Layla disrobed on a dare and let him paint her, and now it’s his best known work.

But Layla’s no longer the girl in that painting, the one where her voluptuous curves were proudly on display.  After dropping over sixty pounds, guys who used to taunt her in high school now want to date her, and so-called friends are only too quick to remind her of how heavy she used to be.

Trapped between the snarky girl she once was and the femme fatale many assume she’s become, Layla’s not sure she’s ready to risk her heart again, even though Akeel’s more certain than ever that they belong together.©

Real time writing . . . Sort of

GOLD is a novel about the 2012 Olympics. But since it includes actual events in the story, a decision was made to write in real time as results unfold. There will be tweets throughout the week announcing updates in the story, and readers can view the plot progression and character development by clicking this link:

JUKEBOX – Official release on June 5th

Now that Jukebox is no longer in the running for one of the top three slots in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards, I’m releasing the ebook Tuesday, June 5th and using the semi-finalist status for marketing purposes.

I’m still trying to figure out how to add the back cover to Kindle 🙂 so I’ve downloaded a few tools to study, like Mobi and Calibre.

    A Very Busy Summer

    Summer is almost here!

So more time can be devoted to my multicultural ebooks and covers. I created a teaser/mock up of a new teen heroine. She’s a Shieldmaiden in training and her ebook, like Razher’s will be out this summer:

Valkyrie Jones, Shield Maiden of Earth and Asgaard

If you haven’t seen The Avengers yet, I urge you to do so. It’s funny, fast paced and a comic book geek’s dream (like me and my family).
