Witch . . . please
Witch . . . please
This is the third time its happened. The first time was when I penned The Stone Boy. Then it was the refugee/biker romance RUSH, featuring the motorcycle gang The Suicide Kings. It happened again with an upcoming ebook, and I can’t explain why it happens, but sometimes a story line, its characters and most of all, the scenes(dialogue and descriptions) are clear enough to type, and the pages soon make up a book.
Readers, thank you for your patience. I’m gearing up for a roll out beginning this month. Because I’ve been busy writing, I’ll need to do some marketing. Part, but not all of the roll out will include free sneak peak promos with several chapters to generate interest. Advertising and marketing can sometimes be the toughest part of being an indie writer, so please keep on the look out for:
Just trying to show some love to my Asian and African bruhs, who are still severely under-represented (and under-appreciated) imho, in romance novels.

More to come . . .
First up is my new cover for the ebook RAZHER, the tale of an African American/Maori she-wolf who teams with a Russian Vampire and Chinese Gargoyle, to take on the corrupt elders of their respective species.
“Awwww suky suky now,” Keenan sang, nodding towards the entrance. “Looks like Cleopatra Jones just joined the party.”
“Cleo who?” Joran could never figure out half the stuff coming out of Keenan’s mouth.
“Just turn around, man. A fine lookin’ sista just came in. She’s Lupita Nyong’o and Halle Berry rolled into one. Don’t tell me you haven’t met Mariah Hawthorne yet, ‘cause she’s the best thing about this damn Arias Industries take over.”
Joran was about to chug down more of his drink when his hand stopped in mid-air. It was like he’d been struck by lightning. The woman was of medium height, very curvy and wore a perfectly round Afro, as if she were a throwback from another decade. Somehow it worked for her, because coupled with her form fitting blouse and skirt, the 70s afro gave her an edginess that had all heads turning. The fact that she was positively beautiful probably had a little something to do with it.
And another, and still others as I work to build my own brand in the world of publishing.
For example, the historical fantasy novel Long Ago and Far Away, featuring these two lovers:
Spawned these sister-witches:
An extended sneak peek of Long Ago and Far Away will be up on Amazon later this week.
That book somehow inspired this novella on a young black woman raised by a religious cult, and how she’s instrumental in taking the leader down. Here’s a promo I’ve worked on for the novel:
Look for the ebook CHERISH in May.
Finally, I’ve got another book featuring an Asian leading man and an African leading lady. Nyesha is from Nigeria, and Takeshi is Japanese.
To read a brief excerpt from the book, continue reading:
Keeping my promise regarding Books for Boys (and men). I’ll be back to link the GIF and photos to excerpts.
If you like the cool werewolf art at the end of the GIF, more of the artist’s work can be found here
Read an excerpt from BENDER:
I’ll be back to add the excerpt!
I’ve got another new release, this time in the paranormal genre.
First though, Wikkid.Sexy.Cool books is now on Instagram. So I worked on a new promo for HUI that features the female lead, Imani:
Paranormal for the people means stories that not only feature a variety of creatures who go bump in the night, but also inclusiveness and diversity in the world building when those beings are in human form.
Download December continues!!
More free sneak peeks will be available after X-MAS!
I created a new site promo for social media:
Diversity with a Difference means being inclusive, and for several upcoming releases I concentrated on broadening the diversity of the romantic leads. That’s all I’ll say for now 🙂
Oh hell yeah . . .
Papa Xian, of the Gargoyle Xians doing his thing by gliding
Handsome Hui in ballet gear:
I’ve got two versions of the same bad ass anti-heroine. In the first pic, she’s got lion teeth. The second pic was actually the one I’d edited first, but she looked too much like a vampire (or werewolf with the bottom teeth), so I changed it to better represent her species, which is Panthera Leo. The lion teeth may be a bit too big for my taste, so I may just go with my first edit (plus the teeth are whiter).
Just a few of my anti-heroines:
After I release HUI, I want to make sure I have other romance books lined up with Asian leading males, so I’ve been working on additional stories:
I’m also working on spin-offs for my African American witch series:
“Bruh” saves the world
Listening to: Sade’s Kiss of Life and Mariah Carey’s Sweet Fantasy. I loved the movie BELLE
So I used the film as inspiration for a Gothic erotic romance that spans several time periods. Excerpts from Ivy League and the dark fantasy Long Ago and Far Away will be up shortly.
I really enjoy creating ebook covers by pairing interracial couples together. I’ve got a number of new excerpts to put up, but here are a few new things I’m working on. I’m still deciding whether to make certain books serials (release a few chapters at a time on Amazon) or complete novels.
Like Imani, a ballet dancer who waited for her chance to shine in the novel HUI, I’ve got a number of other novels in both the adult genre and new adult genre that I’m currently editing in order to release.
One of my earliest novels dealt with females – specifically a fictional group of gritty women on a navy vessel with interconnecting story lines. I’m going to put up an excerpt shortly. Right now I’m focused on getting HUI ready for release.
My March Madness picks, plus one. Each novel is now .99 cents, and also available on Kindle Unlimited.
All my novels, whether YA, NA or Adult contain romance.
HEAVEN: A service dog transforms the lives of the teen inmate who trains her and the wounded marine who becomes her owner.
RUSH: Outlaw Motorcycle gang member falls for Somali Bantu refugee.
The Stone Boy: A girl witnesses the end of her parents marriage while beginning a tumultuous affair with a troubled boy
JUKEBOX volume one: Mid-west teens form an interracial singing duo in their small, still segregated town.
RAZHER: She wolf avoids an arranged marriage with the help of a Russian vampire and Chinese gargoyle.

This post is still being developed
Life interrupted, so I wasn’t able to finish editing HUI since I work full-time and write part time. But it will be out very soon. Here’s how I deal with the eye-strain of pages and pages of text:
I’m going to repost this 2013 link from BUZZFEED, because it lists a number of Asian leading men who may not be familiar to American audiences:
I’m still cleaning up a number of books (reviewing sentence structure, getting rid of overdone or purple prose, checking for typos). I have to oversee every aspect of self-pubbing and I re-write scenes like crazy. Sometimes I’ll write a scene several times over, only to cut the whole dang thing and use just a couple of sentences.
Just a few more promos to post, because creating them helps me visualize characters and their traits:
I have to thank Jinni, who commented on Dear Author for this post. I didn’t realize there was a podcast discussing book covers with author Farrah Rochon. You can listen to it here:
But in the DA thread, I briefly mentioned how glad I was to see this cover:
Not only was I excited about this book, but my anticipation was building over JR Ward’s 13th novel which is going to feature the brothers Trez and iAm. There’s even a Goodreads thread with cover mock ups and GIFs showing all the excitement here
Then I got a look at the publisher’s new cover for The Shadows:
Was I disappointed? Yes. Inwardly I was like, forget it you big baby. That’s how it is with some major publishers. The ambiguity is so that the people who wouldn’t normally pick up a book with a person of color on the cover will feel more at ease, because you can’t really tell what the guy is (at least to my eyes). But this isn’t the Trez I recall from the novel.
Trez was described as dark brown with green eyes when he and his brother iAm were first introduced (their initial “duties” were another source of frustration though. Thankfully JR dropped the whole pimp and servant routine with Trez, who also waited hand and foot on Revenge). When I find the exact passage I’ll post it. So, what’s a reader and now a new author to do? Here’s my mock up of Trez. I like it so much, I think I’ll use it for one of my own covers. I also think another longer post with more historical examples and also delving into just why there’s resistance from the major publishers to put a person of color front and center on their covers still exists.
My representation of Hui (pronounced Hway 휘)
Hmmm . . . it was faster to file a copyright and upload my Sampler on Scribd than Amazon.com
So, I’ve gotta go with Plan B. Click the cover and you’ll be re-directed to SCRIBD: **Update** Since its now live on Amazon I’ve taken it off Scribd in accordance with Amazon’s terms of service. Click the cover and it re-directs to the Amazon page:
A FREE PDF download is available for a limited time on SCRIBD. Just click the little “Share on social networks icon” to the right of the page:
**UPDATE** So the book is live on Amazon but the wait continues, because the nearest date to list it as free is tomorrow, Sept 30th.
Meet Dane Kovak, the anti-hero lead of the novella UNFORGETTABLE
Dane and Jenelle from UNFORGETTABLE
I was so excited when I saw this poster, because I thought WOLVES would be a weekly TV series starring Jason Momoa.
It’s not, but who knows? Perhaps it will be. Right now its a soon to be released film about werewolves.
I couldn’t resist doing some photo editing:
I love Werewolves, and I’ve been a fan ever since the old black and white classic with Lon Chaney Jr. started playing on television. Lon wasn’t a Werewolf though. He was a Wolf Man. But his angst over becoming a monster by the light of the full moon and hurting the woman he loved was way before the whole Interview with the Vampire and Twilight craze (No surprise that I was team Jacob from the get-go).
