The following New Adult Ebook Excerpts are free for downloading this weekend (Saturday May 10th and Sunday May 11th).
Here’s your chance to read about the volatile bad boy Derek Keane from the NA contemporary The Stone Boy:
JUKEBOX has The Burr Brothers, Eli and Johnny, two rockabilly teens who switch musical genres to perform as soul men, and along with the female classmate they both love, all three make history in the process.
RUSH, the story of a motorcycle gang member who falls for a Somali Bantu refugee is now live on Amazon.
My D’oh! moment: I have the US participation in Somalia listed as Operation Freedom when it was Operation Restore Hope.
I plan to correct that today. Okay, the edit is done. Now KDP has to update the Look Inside feature and the ebook itself.
Here’s my favorite scene from the book:
Kerai, my second mother is watching TV in Ba’ba’s room. It is a bedroom they share at night, but it is his room when he comes home from work. She is very active, giggling and hollering at me to come in and close the door. “Aaliyah, what is it they are doing? He is having mani?”
On the TV, two people are rolling around on a bed. I sit down on my father’s bed, looking around the room at all he has. I did not know he enjoyed reading so many books. When I see the covers, they are of American celebrities with very big smiles.
“Aaliyah, watch them!” Kerai grabs my arm, looking over at me and laughing. “Oh, they are naked!”
One of the reasons I create picture representations of my characters is so that they feel more real to me when I give them a voice. I’ll search for just the right stock photo so I can edit it to fit scenes in the book or as a promo.
The first time Aiden meets Aaliyah, I decided he’d hear her voice, and not see her. There’s a joyfulness about Aaliyah that intrigues him, and challenges his preconceived notions about her culture and her faith.
“I’m not some . . . some ‘thing’ that needs to be pitied. And I’m not someone who needs to be saved. Go look at your own life if you need to change someone.” – Aaliyah from RUSH
Excerpt from RUSH:
Fatuma is my closest friend. We attend high school together. She is very beautiful and she knows it. When we are in the presence of our elders she behaves like a good muslima. But once we are alone she tells me all the gossip. She knows many things and much of the American culture, especially the words they say in school that I don’t understand. Fatuma can speak several languages. When she talks, she goes from Maay-Maay to Somali, to Arabic and to English, and even Swahili. I’m learning a great many things from her.
“Stay away from Batool,” Fatuma warned as we walked to the bus stop. “She’s nothing but a dhilo. She only likes ajanabi boys, the foreigners like the blacks and the whites and the Spanish guys. She’s making zina with anything with a dick. I do not want her with my brother.”
RUSH is the love story of a motorcycle gang member who falls for a Somali Bantu refugee.
After I put up the post EACH ONE, REACH ONE I decided there was more I needed to do, besides putting links in the sidebar of this site.
So on this day remembering Martin Luther King Jr, I’m setting up a new site, one that I hope will become a one stop shop if a reader (or author) wants to peruse books with protagonists of color in all genres. The books won’t be sold on the site, but there will be links directing buyers and others to the websites where an author’s work can be purchased. I’m working on the new site now, on another browser. If you’d like to take a peek at what I’ve got so far, the site is
This is how I’m trying to set it up (columns, video set up, featured books slider)
Right now I mainly have place holders up. My hope is simply to become an asset for those without advertising budgets, or those new to self publishing, or those who aren’t listed on the front page of Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Maybe I can compile a decent database of authors and their novels. And I’ll have GIFs and book trailers up there also.
I’d also like to promote sites that review multicultural works, and those that interview authors of color. Hopefully, the site will be fully functional by February
With February coming up, each week next month I plan on posting a romantic excerpt from both my published and soon to be published novels. The sidebar title will be “The Tools of Seduction” where the main characters have a romantic encounter when the opportunity arises:
Motorcycle gang member falls for Somali Bantu refugee, in the ebook RUSH
Aiden’s RUSH excerpt:
He pulled onto my street, knowing those kids would hear the music and chase after his truck like he was the Pied Piper of ice cream. Dude was really a prick, ‘cause he always used our dead end to turn around, and each time he never stopped. But not today.
First, here’s the link to a three chapter excerpt from the upcoming ebook RAZHER, Rise of the Gargoyles excerpt
I love men, I cannot lie. I find them fascinating, at times infuriating and oh so SEXY. So while I’ve got ebooks pairing African American heroines with white males, rest assured that I haven’t forgotten men of color. There are more ebooks coming out with male protags of Asian, African, African American, Hispanic and First Nations heritage. I’m also starting a series based on five males who share a dorm (suite) in college, but I think it will be in serial form, and housed on this site for the first few chapters.
My goal is to tie in characters from other books who pop up every now and then. I’m also still editing away, because a writer’s work is never done, especially if you write and edit your own books (like I do). I’m also working on promos so that I lessen the eye strain of editing text only, and here’s a peek at a few of them:
I’m very grateful to all the readers who purchase my ebooks, and I have noticed readers buying from other countries.
One of my many goals in writing and self publishing concerns having a lead female character from outside of the United States. For 2014, the Caribbean Islands represented in each of the three books below are:
Love and Baseball – Barbados
The Player – Trinidad
Game. Set. Love. – Jamaica
In addition, I have ebooks that didn’t come out last year, but I hope to have out in early 2014 with female lead characters from other parts of the world:
So, the site is back up, though I didn’t get to do all my updates. Some of the plugins I use don’t play well with the new version of WordPress. Anyway, I’m hard at work continuing with a final (hopefully final) edit on Razher, Rise of the Gargoyles. I wanted to put up an excerpt this past weekend, but I missed my deadline, so I’ll try for Thursday, December 26th.
To pace myself I’ve been creating more covers and GIFS. A novella I’m excited about is “A Mighty Good Man” with a hero named Denzel “Denny” Mercado. He’s paired with a young lady who doesn’t believe guys like Denny exist.
I found a few more models for my 2014 covers. Here’s just one of them :
Download December starts this weekend (Dec 14th and 15th). New excerpts in several genres will be available for free on Amazon. In preparation I’m creating a number of GIFS that readers can use, which will also post on Saturday. Directions on how to save a Wikkid.Sexy.Cool GIF to your computer and using them in either an email or your own personal blog will be provided.
With every GIF you take (and use) you help promote Wikkid.Sexy.Cool. Where multicultural romance rules!
One more “gift” is an excerpt from a section of RUSH:
She made the first move.
I was replacing the spring plate on my bike’s kick stand when the wrench was blown clear outta my hand by a half flattened soccer ball. I got up from a squat, ready to do some serious butt kicking when I saw Aaliyah in the middle of the street.
“Sorry about that. Can you give us back our ball?” she said, not looking the least bit sorry. I don’t know where her father was, but she sure wasn’t wearing a headscarf or a long skirt. It seemed like she’d borrowed a pair of her brother’s shorts.
It’s Download December, where readers can get early access to some of the new books coming out from wikkid.sexy.cool.com
Starting this week, multiple chapter excerpts will be available to download on Amazon. The excerpts will be in a variety of genres, from scifi, military, suspense, new adult and commercial fiction (with a romance and diverse characters at the core of each story)
A motorcycle gang protecting their territory
Refugees attempting to revitalize a run-down area
A deranged man determined to keep his loved ones imprisoned
It all begins and ends in a RUSH
I’ve finally gotten closer to a cover I like:
I won’t be able to publish Razher, Rise of the Gargoyles just yet. Since I didn’t make my deadline I’m releasing a free sneak peek while I work on some plot points in the book. A sequel always has more riding on it, and I want to get things right. I also need to finalize which cover to use, because I’ve created a number of them.
TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!
Get a five chapter excerpt of The Stone Boy as a free download Monday (11/18) thru Wednesday (11/20).
If you enjoy the free preview, then you may want to read The Stone Boy New Adult novel. See how the love story between Nicole and Derek began before the sequel, The Stone Hero is released:
This free promo is coupled with a sneak peek of FURIES, a Paranormal Romance.
I love creating covers and promos. I learned Photoshop (my daughter was so patient with me ) but I also work with Paint.net. The covers serve as both ads for upcoming releases, and to showcase the beauty and variety among of women of color.
The Stone Hero is the sequel to The Stone Boy. All the characters from The Stone Boy are back, and it gives me a chance to introduce a deaf Afro-Cuban teen named Trayvon Wilfredo Lima who has his own book:
Now, here’s a scene from Razher, Rise of the Gargoyles:
Meet The Reckoning Crew, Razher’s friends who play a bigger role in the sequel:
Damalia the Enchantress is the cousin of Malia the Witchling:
This BUZZFEED article is a must read! Asian men need more representation, not just on film, but in books:
BOYS ‘N LOVE AND MAGIC has Malia Toussaint paired with Corey Yune.
In VALKYRIE JONES, Valencia Perez is paired with Kai Ioki:
The Stone Boy will be on sale Wednesday,
Sorry, I forgot to change this post to reflect the new timeline for this ebook’s release. It’s tentatively scheduled for Thursday August 22nd.
I’m working on the promo materials for the book (along with several others). I’ve narrowed the photo-story board to these:
And one more:
The free six chapter download for The Stone Boy ends tomorrow. The excerpt is paired with a sneak peek of FURIES.
Currently working on: Promo materials for QUEENSREALM.
Here’s the new cover:
“The tyranny of man must be defeated by the treachery of Woman” – Amerikka X, shortly before her death
What is QUEENSREALM? Well, it’s a dystopian tale of earth, where man and woman are at war. There’s a virgin alien hero, a reluctant leader, a homicidal child, and lots of sex and betrayal.
I’ll have more promo material up shortly.
There’s a six chapter excerpt of The Stone Boy up on Amazon.com
It’s listed at 99 cents, however the free download will start on Friday, which means the release date of the full book has been pushed to next week.
I use these Sneak Peeks as a way to promote upcoming ebooks and also to spread the word on wikkid.sexy.cool.com
Now I’m working on the promos for QUEENSREALM, an adult scifi. Like all our novels, Queensrealm has a romance at the center of the story. I hope to have most of the promo material up by later in the day.
A five chapter free excerpt download will be ready Wednesday (so sorry, I forgot about the time differences and when free downloads kick in) on Amazon. The full ebook will be on sale Friday (August 2nd), for a one day sale price of .99 cents.
You can read a short excerpt here
HEAVEN will be up this week, although I may have to change the date again, this time to the
18th the 19th.
I got a creative burst just before publishing it, so I decided to pull the ebook and include the new info. My marketing/promo for the full novel will be an eleven chapter, two day free download.
Free Eleven chapter download starts tomorrow on Amazon!
And yes, I changed the first name of my Afro-Cuban character in honor of Trayvon Martin.
This book was supposed to be out last year, but there was a secondary romance in the book that needed a bit more work. So I held off until just the right scenes came to mind, and putting the couple together didn’t seem so improbable.
Just for fun, I thought I’d cast the movie of this book:
For Josh Duval, the wounded Marine, I’d cast Hayden Christensen:
For the part of Marko, I’d like to see Mike Epps in the role:
I’d cast an unknown actress in the part of Nevaeh. An excerpt of the novel can be found here
